We welcome students, faculty and staff at Wichita State University, along with the health professions community at large to participate in interprofessional education opportunities.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined interprofessional education as:
“When students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes” (WHO, 2010).
Interprofessional Education prepares students for interprofessional practice defined as:
“When multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, careers and communities to deliver the highest quality of care.” (WHO, 2010).
To accomplish this purpose, the Interprofessional Education Collaborative established four competency domains to drive educational opportunities for healthcare students:
- Values and ethics for interprofessional practice
- Roles and responsibilities
- Interprofessional communication
- Teams and teamwork
